PRIMARY DIVISION WELCOME
A very warm welcome to the Primary Division at Somersfield Academy!
Somersfield is proud to offer the only Montessori Lower Primary curriculum on the island! This philosophy of teaching is internationally recognized and continues to be the catalyst for educational reform world-wide.
Our Primary programme provides a rich learning experience for students ages 6 -11. Our students are challenged to think critically, be active participants in their own learning, develop independence, and become productive citizens in the wider world.
Our dedicated teaching faculty are caring and committed to teaching and working for the best interest of their students. All teachers embody Somersfield’s Core Values, and Promise and work towards modelling behaviours such as empathy, compassion, and the commitment towards diversity. Dr. Maria Montessori stated that;
Our care of the child should be governed, not by the desire to make him learn things,
but by the endeavor always to keep burning within him that light which is called intelligence.
The Lower Primary Division embraces the Montessori teaching philosophy. The teacher, child, and environment create a learning triangle that helps prepare students for a world not yet realized. The classroom is prepared by the teacher to encourage independence, freedom within limits, and a sense of order. As an internationally recognized, well respected programme, the Lower Primary curriculum aims to ignite every child’s love of learning through the use of their imagination.
Our Upper Primary curriculum is set within the frame work of the International Baccalaureate Programme. It is a rigorous, student-centered programme and provides an excellent preparation for our IB Middle Years Progamme. The Upper Primary division aims to develop knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
Together with the supportive Somersfield Learning Community, my goal is to create a safe, nurturing learning environment rich with opportunities for each individual student and teacher to reach their highest potential.
(Ages 6 -11)
Our Primary programme provides a rich learning experience for students ages 6 -11 by providing a carefully planned, stimulating environment which helps children to develop habits, attitudes, skills and ideas essential for a lifetime of critical thinking and learning.
Our students are both reflective, balanced and inquirers who take academic risks and constantly seek out knowledge. Above all else, our students at Somersfield Academy are global citizens who show compassion for each other.
Our dedicated teaching faculty are caring and committed to teaching and working for the best interest of their students. All teachers embody Somersfield's Core Values, and Promise and work towards modelling behaviours such as empathy, compassion, and the commitment towards diversity.
