Montessori Start — IB Finish

Somersfield Academy provides a holistic learning environment combining a dynamic Montessori and International Baccalaureate curriculum in support of each student’s personal strengths.

Montessori Method

Developed by Maria Montessori, the Montessori method of education is based on self-directed activities, collaborative play, and hands-on learning. Throughout the process, children work in teams or individually to hone natural interests and independent thought which maximizes their potential for learning at an early age. Somersfield Academy offers the Montessori method specifically within our Children’s House and early Primary years, with elements reappearing within our Secondary curriculum in support of our International Baccalaureate education.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

Beginning in Secondary school, Somersfield Academy offers an International Baccalaureate (IB) education that delivers a well-rounded curriculum that addresses today’s challenges with an open mind. Carrying on from the Montessori method taught in our Children’s House and Primary program, our IB program is intentionally student-centric, holistic and fosters a growth mindset that develops self-motivated, independent, critical thinkers that can help shape a better and more peaceful world.

At the heart of the IB program lies the IB Learner Profile—a set of ten attributes that encourage students to become lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and compassionate global citizens.
