Charles Zuill IB Art Exhibition Review
“Having spent a good deal of my professional life teaching the visual arts, I have a keen interest in what students do. What was impressive about this show was not only the quality of the work, but also the technical variety on display. Not only was there the more traditional paintings and drawings, but also welded sculpture, ceramic sculpture, kites, printmaking (linocuts and serigraphy) and photography, to name a few.”
Secondary Divison Sports Day: A Day of Triumph, Remembrance, and Team Spirit
Somersfield Academy's Senior School Sports Day was a resounding success, graced with perfect weather for competition. Students vied for titles like Champion Boy and Girl, and the rivalry between the Makos and Tigers added to the excitement. M4 students impressed with their coaching and officiating skills, supported by the academy staff.
Somersfield Academy Students Join UN Conference on Gender Equality
Over March break, DP1 students participated in the UNIS UN Conference on Gender Equality in Manhattan. The conference united over 30 schools worldwide. Students engaged in workshops, debates, and panel discussions, hearing from high-ranking diplomats including Ambassadors of Sweden, Iceland, and Malta.

Panama Service and Action Trip a Resounding Success!
Thirty-two M1 – M5 students, six parents and four chaperones set off to Panama on March 19 for a Service and Action Trip to Panama. The group volunteered at the Escuela Bilingüe De El Valle painting and assisting special needs students, playing football games against both the school as well as the local football team. They also made time for cycling, hiking, horse-trekking, and zip-lining, a visit to the old Panama City, the canal and the largest mall in Central America!
Building Futures: Empowering Students through LEGO Design and Technical Skills
Students in M2 have been working to create their own LEGO kits for children ages 9+ in their Design class. They researched the interests of their peers and analysed the work of professions to inspire their own creations. As part of this process, students have been learning to read and create technical drawings, using these to create 3D models in OnShape, a cloud-based professional modelling programme.
Bermuda International Challenge: Somersfield Academy Students Win Big
The Bermuda International Challenge united local clubs for a spirited competition. 28 athletes from Bermuda Gymnastics and Quality Gymnastics showcased their skills across various levels, supported by 5 standout performers from Somersfield Academy.

Badminton: Somersfield Wins 6 Out Of 8 Titles
Somersfield Academy claimed six out of eight titles at the recent Bermuda School Sports Federation Senior School Badminton Tournaments.

The MYP Basketball Boys showcased their prowess with a decisive win against Whitney, displaying stellar teamwork and individual skills. Despite a narrow loss to Sandys Middle School, they showed resilience, using the defeat as a learning opportunity to refine their strategies. With a focus on improvement and determination to bounce back, they're gearing up for future challenges, embodying dedication and passion for the sport.
JV Basketball Highlights
The JV Basketball team experienced highs and lows this week. Despite a tough loss against Berkeley, they showcased resilience in a remarkable comeback against Warwick Academy. Trailing by 21 points at halftime, they rallied with 17 consecutive points in the second half. Though the final score was a 21-17 loss, their grit left a lasting impression. Coaches and fans were inspired, seeing it as a valuable learning experience. With newfound motivation, the team is ready to face future challenges with determination and confidence, promising a stronger season ahead.
